Top 10 Windows 7 desktop gadgets 2012

I wrote an article called The 10 best gadgets for Vista sidebar. Now 2010 and I'm running Windows 7, and although still use most of the gadgets he uses that time, I also found some new ones that deserve mention. This is my favorite.

Note: This article is also available as a photo gallery and as a download in PDF.

   1: All CPU Meter

Gadget you use to control my dual core computer running Windows Vista are not available in quad-core version, so I switched to All CPU Meter (Figure A). Supports up to eight cores (so I do not have room to grow). All CPU Meter is not as complex as some, but the simplicity works in its favor. To monitor the memory usage and CPU, and packs a lot of information in a small space. I also like that you can change the background color to suit your preferences.

All CPU Meter really control all kinds of CPU cores - eight of them.
2: Windows Orb Clock

All the while using Vista and use Windows 7 the first year, my analog clock gadget choice is an electric blue version that comes with the operating system. But now I changed to a much cooler models: clock Windows Vista Orb (Figure B). Of course, the world itself is also in the Start menu in Windows 7. I like the look clean and good symmetry has the other side of the Start menu I ball (I was on my taskbar vertical position.

After years with a blue electric clock gadget, I have replaced the Windows world.
3: Clipboard Manager

I also replaced the Clipboard gadget I use with Vista. I love being able to access the clipboard on the item - no need to open an Office application - but the parents were a bit cheap looking and limited in functionality. Clipboard Manager (Figure C) is smooth and rich features. You can customize the background to customize your desktop, not just a color, you can use a photo as background, if you want.

You can store up to 999 clips (that's a lot of clips!) And may remove any clip or send it to the clipboard or your favorite right-click. Favorites feature lets you create boilerplate text you use often. I also like the ability to tag clips with timestamps. And, unlike the Clipboard gadget age, is consistent with the images and text. Even has a privacy mode, which prevents the clip to be displayed in the main gadget so that people who see the desktop you can not see what you have stored on the clipboard.

This little gadget has a large flight, which brings a lot of functionality in a small package.
4: Explorer Facebook

A big change in my life online since 2008 is that I have become totally immersed in social networking. Most of the discourse that occurs through the mail discussion list is now happening through Facebook. A Facebook gadget that seems almost a necessity, but the first time I tried (Facebook Sidebar 1.5) does not work. I never collect information even though he says he is connected. So I tried Facebook Explorer, which works well. It can be configured to run at a greater width or smaller and one of three heights, and can determine how often you want to update (each or 60 minutes). It gives you a compact view of their own country and of the information or the activities of their friends, as shown in two views of the gadget in Figure D. You can also update your status on the sidebar.

Facebook Explorer can be customized to the size that best fits your desktop.
5: Ultimate Explorer

Ultimate Explorer allows you to search most popular sites from your desktop without having to go to the first site in your browser. It is a compact little gadget where you can search Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, eBay, Amazon, Digg, and more. You can make it bigger if you have a lot of desk space, and you can select up to eight Search the site for the "look-ins", which allows you to "adjust" to other fast search engine. It also includes a drop-down calendar, events and functions. And unlike most of the officers, and even has a flyout Help section, as shown in Figure E.

Ultimate Explorer allows you to search many sites quickly and easily.
6: Application Launcher

One aspect of Windows 7 that many users are annoyed and frustrated remove the Quick Launch toolbar. If you're like me, for years you have relied on the Quick Launch toolbar to access frequently used programs. There are ways to get back the Quick Launch, but unlike previous versions of Windows, you can not separate the quick launch bar on the main taskbar. That means it takes up valuable space on the taskbar, you may need to open the program, elements of the system tray, etc.

Enter the Application Launcher gadget (Figure F). Serve the same purpose as the Quick Launch toolbar, but can be placed anywhere you want on the desktop. You can add any program you want by dragging them with the gadget, set the number of icons displayed per line, and if the center of them, and change the background image.

App Launcher V3 makes a good replacement for Quick Launch toolbar a bit lost.
7: MiniTV

Want to rest and catch up on news? MiniTV This gadget lets you choose from a number of stations (many of whom have never heard of, and families, such as NBC News and C-SPAN). You can see this program in a small gadget window (Figure G) or you can double click to view full screen. Just double-click again to exit full screen mode.

MiniTV lets you watch TV on a small gadget window or full screen.
8: Traffic According to Bing Maps

Trade is a simple little gadget that can be useful if you would leave the world, big bad. I do not use as much as some people would do, because I work from home. But do not dare to the main highway from time to time, and it's good to know in advance whether there will be problems along a certain route. One caveat is that you need to stay in (or traveling) a major metropolitan area to use it. You can zoom in or out, and click the button for traffic information (represented by red icons in Figure H) will lead to full-sized map of the Bing Maps, complete with data traffic.

Bing Maps help avoid traffic congestion when adventuring in the metropolitan area.
9: The Magic Folder

Well, yes, the icon is not the most professional look, as shown in Figure I. And many people will not like the idea of having a folder to make decisions about where to store your files. But for those who always seem to end up with dozens of files sitting on the table because they never get around to transfer to the appropriate folder, Magic Folders can be a godsend. You simply drag a file to a folder of magic and check the file extension and send the file to the folder "right". . For example, file documents go to the My Documents folder .. Jpg, gif, and other image files into the Pictures folder. The good thing is that you can add or remove file extensions recognized by the gadget, which alter the specific extensions should be placed, and add your own folder location. If you want to maintain more control, you can configure the gadget to warn you before you move the file to a folder. Oh, and you can also change the look of folder icons to something a little less ... magical.

Magic Folder gadget can have icons look stupid by default, but can help people get better organized irregularly.
10: Open / Close DVD

Open / Close DVD is very simple. But it is useful to have if your team is sitting at his desk as I am, making it difficult to get the keys to unlock doors from the DVD. Simply click on the button (arrow pointing down is shown in Figure J) and is open, click the Close button (arrow pointing up) and close it. There is nothing easier than that. One thing to note: If you have more than one drive connected, it will open / close the two of them - there is no option to choose a specific unit. Get Adobe Flash player
